The Connection is a painting from 2004-2005.
Santa Cruz absorbed me! I was sitting on my surfboard awaiting the next wave, when I saw a pod of dolphins playing in the break that was further out.
Wow…how amazing it would be to be a dolphin! While watching the dolphins my imagination took over. Human crossed with dolphin becomes a mermaid, breathing both underwater and in the air above. In the moment I felt freedom and oneness with the ocean, leaping in and out of waves, frolicking in the sea.
The feeling seaweed dancing below my feet awoke me from the dream of having a tail. I gazed at the dolphins swimming in the distance, now even further off, to see they really do look like mermaids.
Learning, loving the ocean and holding it in the greatest respect, letting go of the fear of what might be lurking underneath me, absorbing the salt water around me and becoming one with the goddess of ocean, in full trust of her love for me, I let go and become a mermaid!!
